Dreaming and Planning

Marrakesh Express - Crosby, Stills and Nash released this song in 1969.  That was the year I turned 10 years old.  I heard this piece of music at a friend's house when her older brother  - her long haired, big tinted glasses, lots of like-looking-friends, living-the-60's-culture brother - used to listen to this along with Steppenwolf's 'Magic Carpet Ride'.  All this music made such an impression on me and somehow this one 'stuck' in my head.  I've wanted to travel to Marrakech ever since.

So here I am, 44 years later, taking the chance of capturing childhood dreams and fantasies in a country more than 5,000 years old.  I'm travelling with my friend Shirene as we celebrate two big events - the first time I'm travelling without family or a significant other and Shirene's 50th birthday!!  

So we asked each other -  why travel all this way without seeing something else along the beaten path?  Shirene wanted Spain and I wanted Italy - and the decision was made.  Lisbon, Portugal!!!  Two days of exploring at the beginning of our journey before meeting our tour group in Marrakech.
